Every now and then, Jerry and I drive north to see my family rather than flying. This time, we spotted something we’d never seen before only minutes away from my parents’ house, in Davis, California. It got me thinking about how we can pass by beautiful things so close to home that we never see. And how the things that make us smile can be as simple as a sunflower – or as powerful as a field full of them.
Beauty may look different for everyone, but when it comes to our closets the one question we can all ask is, “What do I love about this piece?” Maybe it’s the way a sweater falls off my shoulder or the giant ruffles on a shirt, an asymmetrical hem of a sleek skirt or the silhouette of a big and cozy sleeve. Learn what features make you smile and be willing to take small detours to find them. You never know what you’ll discover you love.
